I finally found a decent amount of time to paint, and completed a few miniatures. So here's to an update on my Genestealer killteam.

I still need to learn some photograph techniques... |
Imperial records of the Genestealer Cult known as The Devil's Adders is very limited. Unlike other Genestealer cults, this group has only been seen in small numbers and is known to be lead by a leader only know as the Snatcher-Devil. In each appearance of this group they have been known to use military precision to strike from the shadows, only to disappear as quickly as they arrived. A report from one incident claimed to have left the Snatcher-Devil mortally wounded. However no body was recovered, so the reoccurrence of this villain leaves that report in question. A request has been sent for an imperial investigator to look into this group further.
In all honesty when I was pulled back into the hobby in late 2018 it had been over a decade since I touched some of this stuff (except to move them into the house we purchased). Honestly haven't played since 4th edition 40k! So it was quite a surprise to find that one of the things in my box of conversions I had been working on was this guy:

Demolitions Specialist Coals
|
Not only was I really happy with the conversion, I also wanted a second flamer guy for the Killteam. Perfect! As you can see he is another Space Hulk plastic hybrid, who got a backpack from a tank kit, and a space marine flamer. I connected them with a length of guitar string wire. Now, if he wasn't already converted I would consider giving him a new head with a gas mask from the new genestealer cult sprues for variety. Since he's done though, I got to painting.
I'm pretty happy with how Coals turned out. Maybe bit too much brown, but I wanted mostly dull colors since the purple and blues of his genestealer heritage already makes him pop.

The Snatcher-devil, v1. |
Next up is The Snatcher-Devil himself. He's a mix of plastic Cadian, Catachan, and genestealer hybrid parts. The power maul is a power axe cut up and rebuilt. The mask was made from green stuff. I imagine the Snatcher-Devil as a faceless villain, a role who has been filled by many. Something in the vain of Cobra Commander from the G.I.Joe comics, or the Dread Pirate Roberts from the Princess Bride. This won't be the only version of him; in fact I already have a second one in the works for a different equipment build-out.

Genestealer Purestrain "Alpha" as he's a new start |
Finally, we have this genestealer. He's actually the first model I painted, and started as a test bed for the colors. I used contrast colors for the skin and claws. I really like how they turned out. The blue armor also gave me much more depth than the old black and purple armor I used to do. I'm happy with the change (though the pictures really don't do it justice).

Two generations of 'stealers, 20+ years apart... |
I have a few more models to complete before I can call this Killteam complete. I have a cultist with an auto-cannon, another version of the Snatcher-Devil, and an aberrant. I have other conversions in mind as well... but those can wait until I have a few other projects complete.
Great work on the Xenos! The cultist with the power axe is rather good too.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm really happy with them so far. They've been a pretty good team on the field too, so I'm glad to not have to continue with the fill-in models.
